For 33 months, this wild and wonderful Olympic race to Tokyo raged on. It continued through a pandemic. It seesawed between some of the best talent the United States has ever put forth on the women’s side. It featured a race on the men’s side that wouldn’t finish until the penultimate day of the Olympic race.
It was tremendous theater, a pleasure to follow and watch and cover. And while the Olympic race may be over, with April Ross and Alix Klineman, Sarah Sponcil and Kelly Claes, Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb, Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena, sealing up the four American berths to Tokyo, the season is far from finished.
Already, American athletes are preparing to compete again, in the Gstaad four-star in July. Already, they’re back to training, to lifting, to finetuning their games. Sponcil and Claes are preparing for the Olympic Games. As for Tri Bourne and Trevor Crabb, Emily Stockman and Kelley Kolinske, Bill Kolinske, Delaney Mewhirter and Traci Callahan? They’re gearing up for events in Gstaad, Rwanda, Belgium and Bulgaria.
They’re pushing onwards, pushing for more medals and success on the international stage.
It is our goal to continue supporting them to do so.
Your donations — along with support from sponsors and USA Volleyball — have been instrumental thus far in relieving a huge portion of the financial burden of Chasing Gold athletes in Cancun, Sochi, and Ostrava. We would love your continued support, as the summer is only just beginning.
The pursuit of medals is only just beginning.
The Olympic race may be over, but American athletes are always Chasing Gold.
